Introducing Publication 001: The Recursive Theory of Organizational Coordination
Organizations make consequential decisions all the time: expand, integrate, hire a new executive, adopt AI, reorganize, or transform how work gets done.
The decision may be sound. The organization still has to deliver.
Today, 2ndSys is publishing Publication 001: The Recursive Theory of Organizational Coordination — A Structural Theory of Ambition, Capability, and Organizational Transformation.
Publication 001 presents the foundational account of Recursive Theory, the research program behind 2ndSys and Align. It examines what changes when leaders decide that an organization must become capable of something it cannot yet reliably do.
The publication introduces a precise language for ambition, capability, decisions, state, coordination, dependency, recursion, and transformation. It presents the theory’s causal model, five structural dimensions, predictive hypothesis, scope, and current limits.
Those five dimensions are:
• Decision Authority
• State Traceability
• Constraint Visibility
• Failure Containment
• Adaptation Capacity
The purpose is not to replace leadership judgment or question the ambition leaders choose to pursue. It is to improve our ability to understand what the organization will be asked to do, where its present conditions may be insufficient, and what is most likely to prevent delivery first.
Publication 001 establishes the foundation, not the conclusion. The predictive hypothesis remains probabilistic and subject to prospective testing. Claims, evidence, applications, and limits remain distinct as the research program continues.
The publication now has a permanent home within the new 2ndSys research architecture.
